Chosen by NASA scientists as capable of going into space on the arms of the first astronauts, the Omega Speedmaster was orbiting in space in the early 1960s and eventually ended up landing on the moon in 1969 with Buzz Aldrin (Neil Armstrong left his inside the spacecraft). Since those days, Omega has made a slew of Speedmaster models.
The reference 145.022 was the very first Speedmaster to use the caliber 861, which replaced the revered caliber 321 from the very first models. This was just about the only significant change made to the faithful Speedmaster, as it features the same 42mm case with lyre lugs of the previous reference 145.012.
The Speedmaster model and more specifically the "Pre-moon" references are highly sought-after pieces for collectors and space history enthusiasts. Including this timepiece in your private collection is about to have a small piece of humankind history.
