Over the last decades, the swiss manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has devoted a big share of their development department to Pilot's watches. Having a very fond relationship with the aircraft industry and as big enthusiasts of renowned pilots, in 1936 they produced the first Pilot's Watch, beginning what will become one of their biggest and most wanted watches' families. As new Pilot's models were produced, is noticeable the use of the finest materials and high-end technology applied to complications.
Over the past 3 decades, the Portofino watch family has established itself as one of IWC's most successful families and is equally popular both men and women. The origins of the large, minimalistic case design for the Portofino can be traced back to the 1970s, when the Lépine pocket watch became the inspiration for the entire watch family. The "pocket-watch-style wristwatch" was presented in 1984 with the name "Portofino". Since then this watch family, with timepieces that retain their value and, above all, remain timeless, has been a permanent part of IWC's collection.
